Wautoma Kiwanis Prepares for Blood Drive
The Community Blood Center – Appleton, WI
http://www.communityblood.org/
The Wautoma Kiwanis hosted Mandy Johnson from Community Blood Center in Appleton and her friend Irene Cook to speak at the monthly Kiwanis dinner meeting at Silvercryst on Thursday September 8th. Irene spoke first-hand about how important it is for people to donate blood. After experiencing complications while giving birth to her last child, Irene required numerous life saving blood transfusions, provided through the Community Blood Center. She spoke about how the blood donated by others not only saved her life, but it impacted her entire circle of family and friends as well.
Mandy Johnson then spoke to the group with a Power Point presentation about who is eligible to give blood, where their donor sights are, the simplicity and safety of the donation procedure and many more interesting facts. She pointed out that blood donated through the Community Blood Center goes almost exclusively to hospitals in central and northern Wisconsin.
The Wautoma Kiwanis sponsored blood drive with the Community Blood Center will be held on Monday, September 26th, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the World War II Memorial building across from the library.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood please call Marv Nielsen at 920/765-1289 or Mary Anne Nielsen at 920/787-7922. Walk-ins are welcome, especially in the afternoon when they are less busy — but advance appointments help assure proper staffing.
The blood donated in our communities stays in our communities. It is so important to donate blood. Every unit of blood donated can save up to three lives!
